Hunza Lake Is Now Over 325 Feet Deep

A massive landslide from a mountain on the bank of Hunza River blocked the passage of the river near Attabad and created the natural lake. The lake is now over 18 kilometres long and 325 feet deep and has blocked a portion of the Karakoram Highway and its longest bridge.

Aainabad village has completely submerged underwater.The trade route between Pakistan and China has been blocked due to the fact that 30 kilometer portion of the Karakoram Highway has been affected. Hunza River will not burst in the next one week.

According to a survey conducted by Dunya News the width of the lake has increased to 28 km. The inflow of water into the lake is 2000 cusec per day.

Half of Gulmat and several houses in Sigat village have drowned. Four villages and 30 kilometer portion of the Karakoram Highway has submerged under water.
